Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
