Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
